What to Expect

What’s the first step in getting started?

The first step is filling out the consultation form below. It’s a short questionnaire that helps me get a sense of what you’re looking for and whether we’d be a good fit to work together. Once you submit it, I’ll follow up with details about availability (and just a heads up — I do typically have a waitlist).

If I’m not the right fit for what you need right now, that’s okay too. I’m happy to help point you toward another therapist who may be a better match (making sure you’re supported matters most).

If we both feel good about moving forward, we’ll schedule your first session and I’ll send you access to your secure client portal (your own little therapy HQ where everything lives in one place).

Before your first session

Before we meet, you’ll receive access to your secure client portal where you can complete intake paperwork and any relevant assessments ahead of time. Most people find this takes about 15–20 minutes to complete. I review everything beforehand so we don’t spend our time together going line by line through forms.

This helps our first session feel more focused and less overwhelming. If you have any questions before we meet, you’re welcome to email me at any time.

It’s completely okay to feel nervous before your first session. Honestly, I usually am too — meeting someone new and talking about personal things can feel like a lot.

Our first session is a little more structured, but it’s still very much a therapy session. We’ll focus on the highlights — what’s been bringing you in, important background, and patterns you’ve noticed — to help me begin developing a treatment plan that actually fits you. We’ll also start building our therapeutic relationship and make sure this feels like a supportive, comfortable fit.

There’s no pressure to share everything all at once. We’ll move at a pace that feels manageable for you.

During your first session

A little info about my office space

My office is designed to be neurodivergent-friendly and comfortable. You’ll find blankets (including a weighted lap blanket), a weighted stuffed dog, and a variety of fidget and sensory toys available during session. You’re welcome to use whatever feels helpful — or none of it at all.

There’s also a coffee shop right below my office if you’d like to grab a drink before or after your session, and I keep water, coffee, and tea available in the lobby. Comfort is part of the experience here.

I’ve created a dedicated page to walk you through fees/investment and insurance. To find out more, click the button below.

Common questions

  • It’s helpful to reflect on what you’d like to discuss, but there’s no formal preparation needed. I’ll provide you with some intake forms through your client portal to fill out before we meet, which will give me a better idea of your situation. This will also include an intake questionnaire to complete, plus assessments.

  • Your first session is all about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about your strengths, struggles, and what brought you to therapy. It’s totally normal to feel a bit nervous, and I’ll make sure to create a comfortable atmosphere for you.

  • Therapy is a personal journey, and not every therapist-client relationship will click. If you feel like it’s not the right fit, don’t be afraid to let me know. I can help you find someone who might suit your needs better. The therapist/client relationship is one of the biggest indicators of change.
